In April 2021 Out Doors Inc. and its participants went on a five-day yoga holiday program in Balnarring. Amanda was our yoga instructor and instructed two sessions per day (morning and evening) of gentle yoga / Yoga Nidra. This type of yoga style helps to get the body out of stress mode and releases tension so that you have an overall sense of calm. It includes gentle relaxation and meditation.
The practice uses blankets and bolsters to support the body with simple yoga poses. We personally found the two sessions of Yoga Nidra per day very beneficial to us as before the five days began, we had back pain and leg pain, however at the end of the five days of yoga we had no more pain, so it helped us a lot.
Amanda was very good at instructing the group and the tone of her voice was very calming. When she would say “l am aware we are doing Yoga Nidra, she would get the message across to all of us in a way that was very inspiring.
The menu throughout the five days was vegetarian, so we all enjoyed plenty of healthy meals. Over the five days, we went for walks along Balnarring Beach and went to Flinders Blow Hole to have a look. On another day we went to Hastings and explored the area, briefly stopping in for a coffee at a local cafe. One of the big attractions towards the end of the week was visiting a lovely big house in Flinders. The owners contacted Out Doors Inc. and invited us to come and explore the property.
There were lots of beautiful, maintained garden areas and some people did some planting of shrubs as an activity whilst others did some art and craft whilst we were there. The owners provided us with tea and coffee and a beautiful homemade apple pie with cream for afternoon tea. The owners were lovely and very kind to invite us to their beautiful home.
On the last day of the holiday program, we stopped at a Vietnamese restaurant called Pho House in Flemington for lunch. Outdoors provided $20.00 for each of us to spend on a meal. The food was delicious, and l had the Basil Chicken Fried Rice and for dessert ice cream with chocolate topping. Very yummy indeed. We really enjoyed the yoga five-day program and hope that we can have many more in the future.
