Looking after your Employees’ Mental Health is Important
Most of us are spending more time at work and less time looking after our physical and mental wellbeing.
Research shows that more than six million working days are lost every year in Australia due to mental illness and employees experiencing mental health conditions in the workplace cost businesses over $10 billion annually.*
We know that highly engaged employees outperform other organisations on a range of measures including shareholder return, revenue growth, sales and turnover.
As businesses operate in increasingly competitive environments, employees must develop tactical skills to perform well in their workplace.
*Australian Bureau of Statistics (2008), 2007 National Survey of Mental Health and Wellbeing.
A healthier, happier, stronger workplace is key to strong performance, low turnover and overall job satisfaction.
Everyone likes to fit in at work. Help your staff and volunteers form closer professional relationships for a more productive workforce.
Engaged staff outperform other organisations on KPIs including revenue growth, sales and turnover.
Help your staff and volunteers to realise skills and passions, and foster the next generation of leaders in your organisation.
Team Building Adventure Programs
Out Doors Inc. has developed the Team Building adventure programs to assist employee wellbeing, foster a healthier, stronger workplace and help teams achieve specific outcomes and meet targeted objectives.
This program has been specifically designed as a self-management tool, which promotes awareness and growth in several areas of wellbeing while assisting employees in taking control of old behaviours and improving their physical, emotional and mental wellbeing.
Lead by Out Door’s experienced Program Coordinators, take your team on one of our certified outdoor adventure and recreational programs for Team Building and employee wellbeing.
You can camp, stay in cabins or even take a day trip. Activities can include a combination of:
- Cross-country Skiing
- Mountain bike riding
- Rock climbing
- Creative programs like bush art and drumming
- and more
The program provides specifically designed modules to assist individual needs and all areas of your organisation. They can be delivered in
- one hour to full-day sessions
- multi-day programs
- small and large groups
Training staff in First Aid is commonplace in workplaces, but what about Mental Health First Aid?
- 1 in 5 people suffer a mental health issue each year
- More than six million working days are lost every year due to mental illness
- It’s estimated that businesses lose $10.9 billion annually through absenteeism, reduced productivity and compensation claims as a result of untreated mental health problems
While there is growing recognition from workplaces of the impact of mental health problems, not enough is being done to increase the skills and mental health literacy of employees to respond appropriately when circumstance dictates.
Out Doors Inc.’s Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) courses provide high quality, evidence-based mental health education, increasing the amount and type
of support you can provide a work colleague, family member or friend.
To provide options for workplaces, our training is flexible and can be tailored to your requirements.
1. Standard (Community) Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) course delivered over two full days.
2. Blended Online Mental Health First Aid – Community course is a combination of online eLearning (takes 5-7 hours to complete) and an Instructor-led component using video conferencing (2 sessions of 3 hours each including set up time).
This internationally recognised course will equip staff with the necessary skills, knowledge and confidence to respond to a colleague in crisis or detect the early signs and symptoms of mental health problems, including depression, anxiety, psychosis, substance abuse, panic attacks, suicidal thoughts and more.
These skills are beneficial inside and outside the workplace.
Our course facilitators are accredited MHFA instructors with extensive practical experience in delivering programs and training in the mental health area. They also have a background in occupational health and safety, risk and injury management and understand how to practically apply strategies within organisations to manage mental health issues and mitigate risk.
Participants receive a copy of the Standard MHFA Manual to keep and a Certificate of Completion.
Additionally (at no extra cost), participants will have the opportunity to complete an online accreditation exam in order to become an Accredited MHFAider for 3 years.
