Meet the Team: Kieran

Welcome to our “Meet the Team” segment, where we offer you a glimpse into the lives of the people who make Out Doors the vibrant and engaging community it is. This edition features an exclusive interview with Kieran, one of our dedicated Program Coordinators. Kieran brings a unique blend of adventure spirit and a deep connection with nature to our team, shaping the exciting experiences our participants come to love. Join us as we dive into his journey with Out Doors, his passion for the great outdoors, and the values that steer his life both within and outside of our organisation.

When did you first become involved with Out Doors Inc and how did it come about?

I first came onboard with Out Doors Inc in August 2023. I had been travelling Australia for a number of years and wanted to find a permanent role with a company so I could settle into more regular life. I saw an advertisement and then did a bit of research into the company and thought it had a lot of great values that aligned with mine.

What is your role now with Out Doors?

My role with Out Doors is as a Program Coordinator, helping to design and run awesome trips.

What is your favourite thing to do at Out Doors?

My favourite activity to do with Out Doors would have to be either whitewater paddling or surfing. I just love helping people catch their first wave or ride their first rapid!

Where is your favourite place to visit with Out Doors?

I love going to Wilson’s Promontory. It doesn’t matter what time of year you visit there are always so many amazing things to do. And the scenery is just breathtaking!

Have you always enjoyed being in nature, where did your love of nature and the great Out Doors come from?

I’ve always enjoyed being outside. I grew up in regional Victoria on a large farm near the Lake Hume. We had endless land to run around on and explore. Both my parents used to take us out on hikes and walks through the paddocks or by the lake or into the forests. It’s always felt like a second home to be out in nature.

What is your favourite activity or thing to do in the outdoors?

I always gravitate towards water activities. I love to fish, surf and paddle whenever I have free time.

If you could live anywhere in the world where would you live?

If I could live anywhere in the world I think I would have to choose to spend a year living in Patagonia. The mountains there are just breathtaking and the rivers are wild. It would be such an amazing place to explore.

What do you do when you’re having your own mental health challenges?

I find that whenever I am experiencing any mental health challenges I like to be out by water by myself. I like to spend a day either fishing or surfing at a nice leisurely pace. Having an activity to focus on whilst being in a nice place allows my mind to process things a little easier.

What is your favourite movie?

Changes a lot but currently loving Hunt For The Wilderpeople… Or the Meg.

And there you have it—Kieran’s story is a testament to the power of nature in shaping our lives and supporting our mental wellbeing. His affinity for the outdoors and his approach to life remind us that finding serenity in the simple pleasures, like a wave’s crest or a river’s rapid, can have a profound impact on our everyday lives.

Kieran’s role at Out Doors not only allows him to share his passion with others but also reinforces our core belief that the outdoors is a tremendous source of joy and healing. We’re incredibly fortunate to have him coordinate programs that resonate so deeply with what we stand for—a celebration of nature, adventure, and personal growth. Keep an eye out for Kieran on your next Out Doors adventure, and until then, let’s take a leaf out of his book and find our own moments of peace in the beauty that surrounds us.
