As we’re all adjusting to the holidays, hopefully we’re all starting to think about things to do and see around the city.
Here are a few of my favourites that are practically free. You can even take a packed lunch with you on the day.
- Enjoy the Fitzroy or Botanical Gardens: The gardens are divine during summer. Take a packed lunch, plonk yourself wherever you wish and watch the world go by. Both gardens are only a few tram stops out of the city.
- Shrine of Remembrance: Located just a short 10-15min tram ride out of the city, heading toward St Kilda. An inspiring and reflective experience with nice views of the surrounding area.
- National Art Gallery: Just a short walk from Flinders St Station, or one stop on the tram. Another wonderful, free experience that can potentially take up a few hours of your day. There are several levels to explore and, if you go on a Sunday, it can be combined with the local market.
- Queen Victoria Market: It speaks for itself, but you may want to take some coin for this one as it’s extremely easy to grab a few bargains! They also have a wonderful night markets mid-week. Don’t forget, travel is free within the CBD and, if you go on a weekend, travel is free with a Myki concession card in metropolitan Melbourne.
Of course, if you’re feeling adventurous, a trip down the Mornington Peninsula is definitely a day filler. Hope this helps inspire some of you to get out and about in Melbourne this summer.
Keep safe, until next year…
