Face-to-Face Course Review

Dave was amazing, it wasn't just a facilitator reading powerpoint presentations, it was engaging and interactive and he ensured that we understood the content by asking questions throughout the course. He made us feel safe to ask him anything & I would attend any course that he presented.

Be confident, be prepared.
Be one of the Million.

Each year 1 in 5 Australians will experience a mental illness. Many people are not knowledgeable or confident to offer assistance.

Physical first aid is accepted and widespread in our community, however, most do not cover mental health problems.

Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) teaches participants how to assist people who are developing a mental health problem, experiencing a worsening of an existing mental health problem or in a mental health crisis until appropriate professional help is received or the crisis resolves.

What is the Standard MHFA Course format?

This 2-day course covers a range of common mental health issues and teaches practical skills to provide initial support to someone in crisis. Participants will gain confidence in approaching and assisting individuals until professional help arrives.

This training can take place at our office in Kensington, VIC, or at your office if you have a suitable space.

What is the Blended Face-to-Face format?

This option combines self-paced eLearning (approx. 5-7 hours) followed by a 5-hour face-to-face training session that can take place at 11 Stubbs St, Kensington VIC, or at your office if you have a suitable space.

What is the Blended Online format?

This option combines self-paced eLearning (approx. 5-7 hours) followed by video conferencing sessions led by a Licensed MHFA Instructor (typically 2 x 2.5-hour sessions). Our interactive online platform ensures an engaging learning experience.

Who can attend?

The course is available to any Australian resident over the age of 18.

How long will my MHFA Accreditation be valid?

To keep your MHFA accreditation, you must take an MHFA refresher course every 3 years.

Why choose Out Doors Inc?

With over 35 years of experience in the mental health field, we understand the challenges associated with mental health. Our trainers are all experienced, accredited MHFA Instructors.

I have never used Zoom before, do I need to install anything or have a special device?

No. There is no need to download any software. We will send you a link that is accessible on desktop, laptop, tablet, or mobile device. All your device needs is a microphone and camera. We can help you get started if you have any worries.

Can I ask the Instructors questions throughout the course?

Yes. All of our instructors are personable, friendly, knowledgeable, and approachable. We make sure the course is engaging and encourage questions.

Do I have to undertake the eLearning component myself online before the instructor-led sessions?

Yes, but only if you select one of the Blended course options. The eLearning component takes between 5-7 hours and can be completed in as many sessions as you need. We always recommend people to split the eLearning component into a few sessions so you can retain as much information as possible.

There is no need to do any prior learning if you select the Standard MHFA Course.

Is the eLearning component content the same or similar to the existing face to face standard MHFA Course?

Yes. The online course covers the same content as the face-to-face course but has been developed to be more flexible and accessible for modern-day life.

Will I receive an official Mental Health First Aid Manual and how is this arranged?

Yes, we will send you the official MHFA manual ahead of time in the mail if you select either of the Blended courses.

Is this a group therapy session?

No. This is an educational course, not a therapy or support group.

What if I miss my session?

If you don’t attend as scheduled or miss a session without providing a medical certificate, there is a non-refundable administration fee of $80.00 for all MHFA bookings.

Will I become an Accredited Mental Health First Aider?

There is no final examination for this course, but participants can opt for Mental Health First Aider Accreditation by successfully completing a short exam following the course.

Can you do the training at our workplace?

This course is available in an onsite format for group bookings. We can visit your site or you can come to our training location. This option is popular with workplaces. You can make an inquiry via the contact form.
